Protecting your personal information is not just good for your reputation but also shields you from costly lawsuits and other business losses.
Begin by reviewing the information your company holds and how it is shared. Keep only the information that is necessary for your business and put it in secure places. Make sure that your employees have only the information they need to carry out their job. Consider encryption of sensitive information while it travels between the database and the laptops or mobile devices of your employees.
Create a plan for responding to security incidents and train your staff in the process. You should also be aware of the latest threats and use software or hardware to block hackers from taking your data or utilizing it in a malicious manner.
Encourage your employees to regularly back up their data and to store backups off-site. It is a good idea to use cloud storage services that allow multi-user access and to create backups in a way that they can be restored from the exact point in time.
Encourage your employees not to save any personal information on their computers tablets, computers, or mobile phones and to not share their logins for cloud storage services with other workers. Also, consider setting up a system to ensure that employees who leave your company or transfer to another department complete the deletion of all personal information on their devices and computers.
